Gender Selective Sperm Separation
Gender preference of the offspring has been practiced since the very dawn of humanity and the social and cultural influences have been historically documented. Many patients have indicated the desire to influence the gender of their offspring through Gender Selective Sperm Separation. Gender selection is recommended to restrict family size and minimize or avoid sex-linked genetic disorders. Gender selection may therefore outweigh the ethical or moral concerns.
The established procedures utilize physiological media and standard centrifugation with or without density gradients. Thus the procedures do not alter quality of sperm.
The efficacy of these procedures is questionable and at best may increase the odds of having the desired gender. Although, statistically, anticipated results are far from optimal, may be more effective if combined with IVF and or PGD.
